Stretch Wrapping Vs Shrink Wrapping
Stretch Wrapping
Stretch wrapping is a packaging method that uses a stretch wrapper to tightly wrap an elastic plastic film around the good and seal it at the end. Since stretch wrapping does not require heating, it is not limited by temperature and consumes only 1/20 of the energy used by shrink wrapping. It can be used to package individual items as well as collective packaging.
Stretch film: commonly polyethylene plastics (UV stretch film, vented pallet film, anti-static stretch film, colored stretch film, etc.
Protective: it protects goods from dust, moisture, and sun (with UV film options). However, stretch wrapping only covers four to five sides of the good, resulting in slightly weaker moisture resistance, but better breathability.
Equipment investment & packaging cost: the equipment has low investment and maintenance costs, consumes less energy, and consumes 25% fewer materials than shrink wrapping, resulting in a shorter investment payback period.
Shrink Wrapping
Shrink wrapping is a packaging method that wraps goods with heat-shrinkable plastic film and then heats it to shrink the film and seal the goods. It can be used to package individual items, as well as collective packaging of multiple small items. It is not suitable for packaging frozen or heat-sensitive items, and should not be operated in low-temperature conditions.
Shrink film: usually polyolefin plastics (films with various thicknesses)
Protective: shrink wrapping does an excellent job of protecting goods from weather, water, and dust damage. It seals the good on all six sides, resulting in better moisture resistance but poorer breathability.
Equipment investment & packaging cost: the equipment has a high investment and maintenance cost, and consumes more energy and materials, resulting in a longer payback period for the equipment.
