What is biochar? Biochar is a kind of charcoal, that is the product of low-temperature pyrolysis of biomass raw materials, and its main component is carbon molecules. It differs from ordinary charcoal used as fuel, its production technology is more advanced and the application range is more expansive.
Biochar is actually a sustainable negative carbon technology (NET). Plants absorb carbon dioxide, but release it when they rot or burn. The NET technology can store carbon dioxide in soil organic matter for thousands of years by means of biochar sequestration. Each ton of biochar can permanently store 3 tons of CO2. It is emerging as a viable, long-term, and high-quality carbon removal method for fighting climate change.

Application: Biochar’s quality and application field depends on the raw material. High-quality biochar is frequently used in soil improvement (promoting crop growth, improving acidic soil, protecting soil microorganisms, improving fertilizer utilization), other biochar can be used as filling material in production, feed additive, asphalt or concrete additive, raw materials for activated carbon and fertilizer production, burning fuel, etc. Either way, biochar enables waste to be reused again in a sustainable way, enabling a true circular economy.

During the production process, organic pollutants such as solvents, microplastics, etc., as well as mineral pollutants are removed at temperatures of 550-750°C. AGICO biochar production line can achieve efficient, highly automated, continuous, and environmentally friendly production without harmful by-products.
Container-type modular installation, convenient transportation, and modular systems save 90% of EPC engineering at low cost.
5G intelligent management can monitor the operating conditions in real-time through the mobile terminal and PC terminal, and directly send to the operator in case of failure.
The equipment is made of stainless steel and nickel-based alloy materials, which are resistant to corrosion, high temperature, and oxidation. The service life is more than 20 years.

Biochar Production Process

Raw Material Preparation
Raw materials enter the crusher to be crushed to a certain size and then enter the dryer to remove 70%-80% of the moisture. The prepared raw materials will be temporarily stored in the storage bin and then sent into the carbonization furnace by the automatic feeding system.

Pyrolysis & Carbonization
The prepared raw materials enter the carbonization furnace, complete pyrolytic carbonization at a temperature of 500-800°C, and then enter the water cooling system to reduce to normal temperature. After that, the finished biochar products are discharged with the automatic unloading system. All organic harmful substances (such as solvents, plastic particles, lubricants, release agents, drug residues, PFAS, PCBS, PAK, etc.) can be removed during this process. The entire carbonization process is actually a self-heating reaction with a positive energy balance. The energy generated during this process is sufficient to run the equipment and can also be connected to the local heating network, which reduces waste volume and costs by 95%. The by-product tar and wood vinegar can be recycled, and 20%-35% solid carbon powder is available to be further processed into various carbon products or taken as fuel.

Flue Gas Treatment
There is a combustion chamber set behind the carbonization furnace. The flue gas produced by the carbonization furnace will be fully burned in the chamber to remove harmful substances and provide circulating heat for the furnace and drying system, which can also be recovered or used for power generation. After that, the flue gas enters the unique purification system and is discharged from the chimney after reaching the emission standard. The entire production process is equipped with bag filters, and the noise is lower than 65 decibels.

Grinding & Packing
According to different application directions, the biochar is usually ground into various particle sizes by a grinding mill and then enters the packaging machine for bagging.
